Recently, some donated boxes were being unpacked at Thrift Warehouse. Inside one of the boxes were two photograph albums filled with family photos from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Included with the photographs were a number of newspaper articles regarding members of the Tichinoff family who had lived in Sarnia, Ontario.
Just to ensure that the photos hadn’t been donated inadvertently, the Warehouse staff contacted the Admin Coordinator at SIRCH who has a passion for researching family history. Within an hour of beginning to research who the people were in the photographs and the Tichinoff family, Donna discovered that a Minden, Ontario resident had developed an extensive family tree including these people on Ancestry.ca. She looked him up in the phone book, called and he answered! He and his wife were in the process of downsizing from a house to an apartment. Friends were helping with packing and clearing and had accidentally included the family photos in one of the boxes that were sent to Thrift Warehouse. He was thrilled to know that they’d been ‘saved’ and will be picking them up from the SIRCH office next week.
Thrift Warehouse is more than a thrift store. It’s a group of people who care and we’re so glad that these family photos are going home!
