So first, I am usually the eternal optimist. But even optimists have a breaking point and I just have to have a tiny rant!
Although it’s the shortest month, February seems the longest. Can’t we just skip this month? I’m so ready for spring and so over frozen pipes, and cars that won’t start, and rain (what’s that about anyway).
Snow just isn’t exciting any more. There’s only so much climbing over snowbanks and slipping on the ice that one can take. Sure, the days are getting longer, but with all this grey, it’s hard to tell. Seasonal Affective Disorder should really just be renamed “February.”
I have permanent hat head and my toes and fingers go numb regularly. My dog drops little piles of snow around the house no matter how well I towel her off. And I feel constantly guilty because I really, really don’t want to take her for that nice long walk she craves.
I think about a second mortgage every time I look at the “fresh” fruit and veggies in the produce department, and wonder how long it took to ship them from Mexico or Brazil or China. I dread the line at the cashier because everyone, including me, is complaining and whining about winter!
I won’t even talk about the bills!
OK – that’s it. I feel better. 😊
Recognizing that others may be feeling the same way, SIRCH decided to do something to make February a little more fun, a bit less isolating, and just make life a little lighter for people during the dreaded February. So every Thursday in February, SIRCH Community Services will provide a FREE, hot lunch between 11:00 and 2:00 at SIRCH Central, 2 Victoria Street in Haliburton. Bring some friends or make new ones. Eat in or take food home. Everyone is welcome. There’s no charge and (even better) no dishes!
Help us change February’s reputation!
