Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the lifeblood of SIRCH, whether fundraising, providing support in programs, or acting in an advisory/oversight role. There are many different ways you can get involved:

  • Board of directors (big picture oversight, strategic planning)
  • Fundraising committee (organizing an annual plan to raise necessary funds)
  • Fundraising events, raffles, sales etc (project-based; on-site)
  • Fundraising – speaking, PR, marketing
  • Community Action Program for Children:
    • meal preparation at Community Kitchen
    • meal preparation for groups
    • child/baby care at groups, on outings
    • guest speaker (on parenting, child development, skill building etc)
  • School’s Cool
    • curriculum implementation volunteer with children 3 – 5
    • community visitor
  • Other
    • office/admin volunteer
    • resource development
    • Thrift Warehouse

All volunteers are screened and receive an orientation.  Depending on the type of volunteer work, you may receive training to thoroughly prepare you to work with individuals who may have various needs.  Program volunteers receive supervision and support.

Any volunteers working with vulnerable populations must have an up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Check through the OPP.
