Simply Homemade

Simply Homemade is a SIRCH social enterprise which makes and sells food to help support the free food initiatives that SIRCH provides to the community (see Food Security Initiatives). With the help of many partnerships, Simply Homemade has expanded significantly since its inception in 2016.

Buy Two, Give One Meals

For many years Community Kitchen volunteers have cooked healthy and delicious meals which are then frozen and distributed to those in need in the County via our distribution partners (food banks, the YWCA, subsidized housing providers, HHHS Community Support Services etc). The Community Kitchen has no base funding – money is raised through donations and fundraising, and food may be donated by local farmers or the food centres.

In order to supplement the cost of the thousands of meals given away each year, we now are offering the same delicious and healthy meals to the public. They are cooked and packaged in our approved kitchen, then offered to the public for $5 each. A wide variety of meals are made with locally grown food wherever possible, and the containers are safe for microwaves and ovens. They are great for singles, students, lunches and those times when you just don’t feel like cooking! For every 2 Simply Homemade meals purchased, SIRCH is able to give one meal to someone in need in Haliburton County.

Fleming Summer Lunch Program

During the summer of 2016, SIRCH partnered with Fleming College to have Simply Homemade provide nutritious meals, homemade baked goods, coffee and snacks to students of the Haliburton School of Art + Design. Over a six week period in July and August, we prepare and serve about 1,000 lunches and snacks. We are now in the planning stages for a third season.
